This is my Life and I'm Sticking to it

After being awake for more than 48-hours, everyone crashed when our heads hit the pillow.

Except for me.

I felt a bit tired and had a severe headache. My eyes were burning from the hours of keeping them open. My head was throbbing when I finally sat down in a quiet, dark place. I wanted to tear my eyes out.

But, melatonin for the win, and I never got up until 8:00 the next morning.

Two children were in one hotel with Grady and two other kids were staying in a hotel with me. After breakfast and Grady leaving for work my kids and I decided to go exploring the small area of Sydney.

The Sydney Harbor is unique - certain areas have cliffs that are jagged, others quiet with sandy beaches, and others boasting a beautiful and modern skyline.

We were not sure of where exactly we were headed, and not knowing what our energy levels would be for our first day of exploring, we opted to start with small museums that explained the British discovery of Australia and its first use for prisoners.

Micah was determined to solve a riddle at museum. Then we walked across Sydney Harbor Bridge. This iconic bridge is the tallest arch of steel and only contains straight pieces of steel despite it being a huge arch.

And side note: Micah is frustrated he isn't able to recreate the bridge in Minecraft. Architecture does indeed have a mathematical component.

After crossing the Bridge We walked around Luna Park, mostly just for a chance to lay down, sip an ice cold drink and ice cream by the water.

When we went to Australia, Australia was in the last days of summer and the beginning the autumnal season. We could feel a steady breeze, but with temperatures in the mid-80's, it was plenty warm.

We hopped on a ferry from Luna Park, crossed the harbor, and walked three blocks back to our hotel.

After seven hours of traveling I set aside "quiet time" in the hotel. The kids wrote in journals or played video games and I closed my eyes. Grady came into the room at 5:30, took his laptop bag, and went heading for dinner.

And, even at 8:15, we were done for the day. It took us a while to adjust to the 15 hour difference in time.

After the first day we all had one word description of Sydney: wonderful, fun easy to move around beautiful, exciting, and friendly. And we were all smiles knowing that we had almost two more weeks in the city to enjoy and explore!
